They see me rollin'

He's finally up on his feet!

Also managed to work on my Snowtrooper too!

Small update...

Not much to report really.  I've started to prime the foot shells and centre ankle ready for a spray in white.  I'm using some spray paints from Halfords rather than digging out the air compressor!

I've also started to construct my styrene battery boxes that I will reinforce with fibreglass.

Lastly I've constructed my coin returns for the skins.

Going to be busy fitting a new kitchen over the next week but will hopefully make some progress too.

Body panels

Got some work done on the body panels.  Got the opening doors finalised so pleased with the progress here.

In this last one you can see I've fitted the Charge Bay Indicator panel.  This will monitor the battery levels.  I've mounted it directly to the skins.

I'm now considering whether to fit the Utility Arm Carrier directly to the skins too...

Dome panels

I've got a few more dome panels attached including some of the opening ones too.
For now I'm only going to have two of the top (pie) panels opening and four of the side ones.

I've also started molding an old Volvo dashboard section for another "project"!

R2-D2 build

Here is the first little insight into one of my little projects...

That's right!  My very own R2-D2!  I've been working on him for just over 2 years and he has gone through a number of changes.  He first began as a plastic framed droid with a fibreglass dome.  He has now been upgraded to a custom made aluminium frame and is on dome number three.  Many of the parts have come from the Astromech.net website and the UK R2 Builders club but I have also custom made lots of parts myself.

The dome sits on a large lazy susan so it can rotate 360 degrees.  Inside he has a large number of LEDs running his lighting at the front and the back.

Inside his body are some linear actuators to make his legs tilt so he can be on either 2 or 3 legs.  This is called the 2-3-2 transition.  He only does this a couple of times in the films and it's quite tricky to replicate!

He is still a work in progress but is starting to really come to life.

Welcome to my new blog!

Hello one and all!

Welcome to my new blog!  Here you will finally get a glimpse into just what goes on down in my shed.

I've seen my wife looking out the window thinking "What is he doing now?"  I've seen the neighbours peering through the gaps in the fence wondering what's going on.

Everyone has someone like me, constantly tinkering away in that forbidden building down the bottom of the garden. Now, finally, here is a little peek into that magical world of a man's shed!
